I believe there is already a rival being prepared for Guitar Rising, and I believe its called LittleBigStar.
I haven’t looked into it to much but I believe it is a game that lets you play any song (MIDI/GuitarPro & mp3/OGG) on any instrument, including Guitar Hero controllers. It is quoted ‘It is like the Guitar Hero, Rock Band and Sing Star games, but taken to the extreme’.

Looks a little less polished - but sounds like it has been developed by only one person.

I wouldn’t call LittleBigStar less polished, since we have no idea what GuitarRising is like. Maybe it’s note detection etc is worse, it just has a better looking GUI. Could be why they haven’t released it yet.
LittleBigStar is in developement by one person and the author has released a beta. No it doesn’t work perfectly, but it definately shows potential.

I was testing for LBS….i had fun testing it out, it does have certian issues with the songs, delay n stuff but after a few little tweaks here n there its pretty awesome.
